Three of the Next Pair

Three of the Next Pair....
Well, I was going to try and use the Genesis Song title... but my paintings are of course
far from Perfect.

Here are three detail shots from the 2 paintings I finished this week.
Unfortunately I do not have any pics which show either of the complete paintings. grrrr.

The first is a companion piece to the Purple, deep red, and blue painting that
was in the KenMar auction.

This one is a blocky composition in yellows, orange, deep red.
VanGogh created a timeless link between these colours and some level of anxiety...

The pic is a close up of the upper 1/3 of the painting.
Sadly, this is probably the most gentle, and quiet part of the composition.
There is much more activity in the bottom 1/2!

The Next two details are from another painting which is a much larger composition
that was a real struggle!
I had some hints and suggestions from some internet twitter friends
regarding the colour choices. The final result does not resemble the initial direction.
But I think it worked really well all the same.
I tried a couple of very different compositional things.
Too bad the photo of the whole painting did not work out.
There is a really nice balance between the upper portion [ not seen] - mostly deep blues
compared to these two details of the lower part, which is mostly yellow ochre, with some sage green for harmony.

This next pic focuses mainly on the centre section where we see these two
environments collide.

As always - if you've got any comments - I'd love to get some feedback.

Sarcasm I get at school,
Criticism I can get at home : )

Take care - cheers - Don

  • Interesting that one of the first things that God created was light! Its also interesting that people have such emotional connections and reactions to both light and colour. My paintings explore the use of colour relationships... and some interesting texture thrown in for foundation and structure. Hope you enjoy them.
